UKIP Leader Nigel Farage, the long term friend and supporter of Kent businessman Christopher Tappin, has set up a petition for opponents of his extradition to sign.
Mr Tappin, who fought extradition to the USA for two years, is currently awaiting the response to his bail application after Home Secretary Theresa May failed to stop his deportation to Texas.
If he is denied bail he faces the prospect of waiting for years in a violent American prison and being forced into a plea bargain. If he waits for a trial and is found guilty he risks spending the rest of his days in an American prison.
Mr Farage said: "The shipping transaction to Iran, which was undertaken on behalf of a US government front company, made Mr. Tappin $500 - a normal shipping fee. It is impossible for me to believe that a wealthy man, on the verge of retirement, would have risked everything for such a paltry sum. I have always known him to be a man of the highest integrity.
"No British court has ever been allowed to examine the evidence against Mr Tappin and I believe this Treaty, signed in the wake of the September 11 attacks, needs to be amended and the British government needs to stand up for its own people.
"Mr Cameron is going to visit President Obama on March 13 and I think that is an idea time to talk about this case and the Treaty as a whole and for the Prime Minister to make clear that he will uphold is election promise of undoing the bias."
Imogen Thomas, former Miss Wales and television presenter, is supporting the petition and has encouraged fans on Twitter to sign it.
