Students unimpressed by coalition

Cambridge students gave the thumbs down to Prime Minister David Cameron's Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government.

Members of the university's debating society said on Thursday night they had "no confidence" in the coalition following a debate featuring leading politicians from the three main parties.

The Cambridge Union voted 275 to 164 in favour of the proposition "This House has no confidence in Her Majesty's Government", following an annual debate.

Former Labour home secretary David Blunkett, UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage and former Labour culture minister David Lammy proposed the motion.

Conservative International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell and Liberal Democrat MP Don Foster argued against it.
